The demands of deploying IoT systems beyond the urban environment's traditional boundary into the vitally critical wild areas become ever urgent [1-3]. In the light of the limitations of IoT technologies and the vast market opportunities, tremendous research efforts and industry investment have been made to enhance the wireless communication range, design low-power sensors, and improve the allocation of network resources. However, the existing IoT systems are still restricted by their inherent shortcomings, including high energy consumption and strong dependency on reliable communication.
