About

Manuel Barros holds a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from University of Lisbon, Instituto Superior Técnico (2009) and graduated in Electrical Engineering, IT branch, from the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra (1989). Professionally, started as an Assistant Professor from 1994 to 2000, and a Professor since 2000 at the Polytechnic Institute of Tomar (IPT). Participated in several research projects co-financed by EU and Portuguese grants. The research area has focused on the automation of analog integrated circuits and system design exploring multi-objective optimization techniques, evolutionary computing and artificial intelligence (AI). Actually, he is developing research work at the Smart Cities Research Center (Ci2), at IPT in the fields of sustainability and environmental protection of water resources, water quality monitoring, and wastewater treatment with constructed wetlands using Robotics, Micro-Systems, IoT and AI technology.
